I am all about easy and all about tasty. This bread takes no work except for mixing everything together. It’s fool-proof and a great way to dive in to using yeast for the first time!
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1.5 tsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1.5 cup warm water
Directions
- Whisk together flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl
- Pour in warm water and mix together with a wooden spoon (dough will not be a perfect ball, that’s ok!)
- Cover with a dish towel or lid and let rise for 8-12 hours (I prefer overnight)
- Turn dough out onto floured parchment paper
- Form into a ball by pulling sides up to center and flip over
- Cover and let rise for one hour
- A half hour into rise, put a covered dutch oven into the oven and preheat to 450*
- Once preheated, remove dutch oven, place dough and parchment paper, into dutch oven and place lid on top
- Bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove lid and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until top is golden brown
- Cool in dutch oven for 15 minutes, move to a rack to finish cooling

Unfortunately, to get the rise from the yeast, this bread relies on the gluten in regular flour. The gluten is what reacts with the yeast to rise before and during baking. Without the gluten, it just won’t work. I’m sorry!
